Pieter Nelissen

Resident ECVS

I qualified in June 2001 from Ghent University in Belgium.  From July 2001 till September 2002, I stayed on at the university to complete a surgical internship programme. In September 2003 I moved to a small animal practice in Lincolnshire (Stamford) where I was in charge of surgery for 3 ½ years. In February 2007 I started a second surgical internship at Dick White Referrals. In 2007 I gained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery.
In January 2008 I stayed on at DWR to start an ECVS approved Residency in Small Animal Surgery. I enjoy all aspects of surgery; soft tissue, orthopaedics and neurosurgery. I feel that we are committed to offer the highest standard of client communication and we treat all our patients as if they were our own. Outside work I enjoy mountaineering, climbing, skiing and walking. I have a lovely English springer spaniel called 'Julie' who has had her fair share of surgery in her short life. I am a member of AVSTS, BVOA, Aovet, ESVOT and the Flemish soft tissue and Orthopaedic society.

Francesco Aprea

Resident in Anaesthesia and Analgesia

I graduated in 2005 as a vet with full marks with honours and I started working in a first and second opinion practice where I focused my attention above all on anaesthesia, critical care and wild animal medicine.  In 2006 I moved to the UK to carry out a one year internship in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia at the University of Cambridge.  After this experience I spent a few months in general practice as a locum and in Novemer 2007 I joined Dick White Referrals to carry on working as a veterinary anaesthetist in an advanced small animal referral clinic.  In July 2008 I started my training as a resident in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia.  I like all aspects of physiology and pharmacology and I enjoy providing the best level of medical care and analgesia for all my patients undergoing surgical procedures or major diagnostic investigations.

I have two south Italian cross breed dogs that keep me quite busy and in my free time I enjoy trekking, bird watching, scuba-diving and photography.

I am a member of the AVA and I hold the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia.

I strengthened my neurological passion and stayed on at DWR for ECVN approved Residency in Neurology/Neurosurgery. I like all aspect of neurology, neurosurgery and neuro-oncology. Aida Gómez Selgas

I qualified in June 2003 from Santiago de Compostela

University in Spain.  In January 2004 I started a one

year clinical training in Small Animal Surgery and

Anaesthesia at the same university.  For the

following 4 years I was working in several private

practices in Spain where I developed my interest in

internal medicine. Feeling unable to fulfil my

professional interests there,I decided to move to the

United Kingdom with the aim of getting a residency in

Internal medicine. After a few months working in

general practice in London, I started one year

internship at the Queen’s Veterinary Hospital of the

University of Cambridge in November 2008. In January

2010 I joined Dick White Referrals to start a residency

programme approved by the ECVIM which I am

already enjoying very much. I always wanted to be

able to offer the best possible service to our pets; our

life is just perfect with them and they deserve the

best. Outside work I enjoy to dance tango, to take

pictures of nature and of course, to cuddle and

play with my Spanish cats Colocini and Flaquita!

Nele Van Den Steen

After six years of veterinary medicine studies, I graduated from Ghent University in July 2002. I moved to the UK, where I have been working in general practice from 2003 till 2005. In 2006 I completed a small animal internship at the  Animal Health Trust, after which I stayed on in the Oncology department. During this period I studied for a Masters in clinical oncology at the University of Birmingham. In 2010 I joined Dick White Referrals to complete my residency in internal medicine.
Outside work I enjoy spending time with my family and my springer spaniel. Most of my holidays I spend outdoors in the mountains.
