Interns

Sayaka Okushima

Hello, I am from Japan and graduated from The Royal Veterinary College in 2009. Before qualifying I spent 1 year at the University College of London to study Genetics. An Internship at a busy referral centre is a fantastic opportunity for me to learn and practice all aspects of high quality veterinary care. I enjoy surgery and anaesthesia, and love to work with cats. In my spare time I like to play the piano, play computer games, cook and eat good food or just sit back and enjoy a film or Japanese Anime!

Elle De Juniac

Hi, I’m Elle.  I graduated from Edinburgh University in 2009. I then spent a few months in India and Morocco working as a volunteer veterinary surgeon, followed by locum work in a London veterinary hospital. I started my internship in February 2010, in order to learn from the best in the business. I am particularly interested in surgery and internal medicine. Outside of work I am a keen runner, swimmer and skier. I love travelling and have spent a lot of time in India and Africa. At home I enjoy going for walks with my Hungarian Viszla, Gus.

Julien Bazelle

Hello, I am a french veterinarian who graduated from Nantes University in 2005. After my graduation, I completed an internship, then a one-year fellowship in internal medicine at the same university.

After that, I decided to work for two years in a small private practice in France where I enjoyed the pleasure of caring for animals and helping their owners.
I would like to specialise in Internal Medicine, and especially Cardiology and Uronephrology,so I chose to work with a french specialist in a referral center near to Bordeaux. The same desire made me decide to undertake a second internship at Dick White Referrals (where I will learn a lot and not only in internal medicine).

During my spare time, I enjoy watching movies, reading and I also like outdoor photography.

Stefano Genoni

Hello I’m Stefano, I’m from Italy and I graduated from the University of Milan. Before my graduation I did an intra-lauream internship at the section of surgery of my university and I spent three months doing a surgically oriented externship at Dick White Referrals.  Following that I worked for a few months in general practice in Italy and since february 2010 I’m an intern here. My main interest is surgery, even though I enjoy all aspects of small animal veterinary medicine. I applied for this position because of the possibility to work in a great referral practice such as this and it allows me the best opportunity to improve my skills and my knowledge. In Italy I used to live in a place close to the mountains where I enjoyed walking with my dog, a boxer called Vania. In my spare time I like scuba diving and I’m really attracted by extreme sports like parachuting and bungee jumping. When I have the possibility to I like travelling to meet new people and discover different realities.

Matteo Cantatore

I graduated in veterinary medicine in 2006 from the University of Milan and soon after my degree I started a 3 years Research Doctorate in Veterinary Clinical Sciences (with a curriculum in small animal soft tissue surgery) which I finished in November 2009. Since then I have worked part time in the University of Milan as a Clinical Fellow and I spent the rest of my clinical activity as a veterinary surgeon in a first opinion practice. I started my internship at DWR in June 2010. My main interests are soft tissue surgery and endoscopy; however I’m interested in all aspects of surgery including orthopedic and neurosurgery. I like to do my best to improve my clinical skills and to provide the best care of the clinical cases in which I am involved.
I like sports and I’m particularly interested in Chinese martial arts, scuba diving and free diving. I have an amazing red cat called Diesel who unfortunately is still in Italy though I’m planning to bring him over as soon as possible.

Alex Lynch

I graduated from Bristol University in 2009 with honours. After graduation I completed a charity neutering clinic in Greece, before entering practice in Cardiff. I find internal medicine fascinating, particularly haematological disorders and emergency medical cases. My interest began as an undergraduate and has grown whilst working in first opinion practice. My aim is to complete further qualifications in medicine and work in specialist practice. I am looking forward to the opportunity to learn from the dedicated staff at Dick White Referrals. Outside work I enjoy travelling, seeing live music and when at home trying to keep my Labrador out of trouble.

Michelle Beckert

Hello, I’m Michelle. I am originally from the US where I completed a degree in Neuroscience in 2004 prior to attending the Royal Veterinary College where I qualified in 2009. Since then I have been practicing on the south coast of the UK. I began my internship at DWR in Jun 2010 to cement my academic knowledge from vet school and my practical experience of the past year. My goal is to help myself to become as good a veterinary surgeon as possible by learning from clinicians at the top of their field. In my spare time I enjoy running and cycling around the British countryside as well as photography.
