For Veterinary Surgeons
Specialist Referral Services
Cardiology
The Cardiology service is run by Jon
Wray
Jon offers a comprehensive range of expertise in all aspects of
Cardiopulmonary disease and this is enhanced by the availability of
Specialist clinicians in a range of other disciplines. We recognise
that, in many instances, it may not initially be clear whether a
problem is primarily cardiac, respiratory or even both. In such
circumstances an isolated echocardiography examination may only
answer part of the question whereas a structured approach to
investigation, by Specialists with expertise in several areas, is
much more beneficial. With qualifications in both internal medicine
and cardiology, Jon is well placed to investigate such problems in
a holistic manner.
Our Cardiorespiratory Service includes:
- 6-lead ECG interpretation
- Echocardiography (2D M-mode, colour-flow, pulse-wave and
continuous-wave Doppler, bubble studies). Our equipment includes a
Phillips IU-22 ultrasound scanner, a Siemens Accuson portable
ultrasound scanner and a Phillips HDI CV5000 ultrasound scanner.
Each is networked to our comprehensive PACS imaging system and,
wherever possible, we try to include representative images of the
problem diagnosed in our report to referring veterinarians.
- Phonocardiography
- Pericardial drainage, assessment and thoracoscopic
pericardiectomy
- Investigation and management of pleural space disorders
- Angiography (conventional and, where applicable, Magnetic
Resonance Angiography)
- 24-hour Holter monitoring and on-site interpretation
- Computed radiography
- Endoscopic examination of airway disorders performed by
Specialists with many years of experience in this field. Samples
collected by bronchoalveolar lavage are analysed cytologically
on-site before deterioration can occur.
- On-site MRI scanning
- Off-site CT scanning
- Evaluation by Specialists in medicine, surgery and diagnostic
imaging working as a close team
