Neurology and Neurosurgery

The Neurology service is run by Giunio Bruto Cherubini with the assistance of Viktor Palus (ECVN Resident in Neurology / Neurosurgery), Helen Fentem Jones (Veterinary Specialist Physiotherapist) and our highly qualified and dedicated neurology nurses Becky, Charlene, Kate, Lyndsay.

The Neurology Service at Dick White Referrals provides the most advanced neurology, neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, neurosurgical intensive care, physiotherapy and advanced nursing care available for small animals. We are able to undertake the full range of neurological and neurosurgical procedures, including MRI scanning, advanced electrodiagnostic tests, in-house spinal fluid analysis, brain and spinal surgery for intervertebral disc disorder, cauda equine, spine fracture and syringohydromyelia.

Conditions seen by our Specialists on a routine basis include epilepsy, meningoencephalomyelitis, CNS disease, intervertebral disc disease, Wobbler Syndrome, urinary and faecal incontinence, lumbosacral stenosis and spinal cord injury.

We are one of very few specialist veterinary centres to have incorporated the services of a full time veterinary physiotherapist. This has greatly enhanced our abilities to restore the physical function of our patients post surgery. Our expert therapist, Helen Fentem-Jones, is able to apply soft tissue and manual therapies, electrophysical therapies and hydrotherapy.

We are very fortunate in having immediate access to the expertise of our Specialist colleagues in other disciplines, as well as an in-house clinical pathology laboratory, providing us very rapidly with accurate results and interpretation

Neurology cases often require a very high level of critical care and our work is supported by the intensive care abilities of our committed neurology nurses.
