Already one of Europe’s largest veterinary referral centres for small animals, the recently completed construction of a 30,000 sq ft extension will more than double our existing size.

On Wednesday 25th April the first turfs were cut and, just over a year later, the building works have been completed and we are ready to start fitting out the new building with all the equipment required by a state-of-the-art referral clinic.

In order to stay at the cutting edge of veterinary medicine, attracting and retaining the best veterinary Specialists who can offer the highest possible quality of care, we must provide an outstanding working environment with the necessary facilities and technology to support their skills.

With a work force of over 300 vets, nurses and support staff, we needed to expand the available space to achieve our objectives and plan adequately for future development.

The expansion will double our inpatient capacity, from 5 to 10 wards and will allow for additional consulting rooms, medicine procedure and treatment facilities, a significantly enlarged laboratory, an integrated imaging suite with new MRI and CT units, extensive oncological facilities and an enhanced and expanded intensive care unit to include an emergency triage area. The new building will also house a spacious and welcoming reception, a separate feline waiting area with integrated cat ward and dedicated feline consulting rooms, a new lecture theatre and staff recreation areas along with a suite of administration offices. These developments will then facilitate the reconfiguration of the existing buildings to create 5 further operating theatres and significantly enhanced surgical facilities.

Now comes the task of fitting out the hospital with the facilities and equipment required to allow our veterinary specialists and their support teams to offer the best possible service to clients and patients.

This is a really exciting development for DWR and we have involved our entire team in the planning process to ensure that the new building provides the best possible environment – not only for our clients and their pets, but also for our own staff.
