Our vets are often called from their beds in the middle of the night for emergency admissions and recently it was the turn of Darren Barnes.

He was alerted in the early hours of the morning because Bishops Stortford Veterinary Hospital were sending a domestic cat for emergency surgery after being shot just yards from her home.

Alaska’s distraught owners wanted to give her every chance of survival, and asked Darren to undertake the surgery on both her colon and intestines. It was difficult surgery and Darren had to remove the bullet and close the wounds without causing further internal damage.

Following the successful operation, Alaska spent several days in intensive care receiving 24-hour nursing care. Thankfully, she recovered well and is now back with her grateful owners.
