The Medicine Ward Nurses are responsible for nursing Internal Medicine patients, as well as Cardiology and Oncology patients within our Medicine ward.  The Medicine Ward Nurses work closely alongside each other to ensure there is always good communication in the ward, and a high level of patient care at all times.  Each day is different due to the large variety of cases we see. The main nursing tasks you can expect to carry out are attending ward rounds to help get a detailed understanding of the patient’s history, results and treatment plan for the day. Invoicing all inpatients in the ward, ensuring each patient has charges added for the day. Alongside carrying out hourly treatments, we work closely alongside Internal Medicine procedures nurses to recover patients from GAs and procedures – also helping to admit patients, place IV catheters and take blood samples.  We carry out procedures in the ward including placement of Naso Oesophageal Feeding tubes, Urinary Catheter Placements, Freestyle Monitor  Placement and Holter Monitoring.  We ensure that all patients are kept comfortable with the ward capacity being up to 24 patients at one time. This position also offers the opportunity to rotate into our cat ward where we look after all other disciplines.

Due to spending all our time in Medicine Ward, and occasionally Cat ward, we really get to know our patients and take a lot of pride and care in our ward!  Medicine Ward nursing at DWR is demanding and it can be busy, but it is an incredibly rewarding job. This position will suit an RVN with a keen interest in Internal Medicine, who is willing to learn and develop their knowledge in Medical nursing.
