Critical Care Nurse – RVN

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Critical Care Nurse to join the vibrant ECC Nursing Team working in our busy, purpose-built hospital that is fully equipped with the surgical equipment and diagnostic facilities commensurate with a flagship specialist veterinary centre.

You will provide excellent care to patients by carrying out veterinary nursing duties in line with the appropriate standard operating procedures and policies. From assessing a patient’s condition and planning and implementing care plans to assisting clinicians, you will also be ensuring stock levels and liaising with the laboratory.

The successful candidate will be highly organised, have the physical, mental and emotional stamina required to work with seriously ill, critical patients, including an ability to cope with a fast changing/quickly adapting working environment and also have a passion and drive for delivering outstanding client and patient care.

This is a full-time position, working on a rota of 40 hours per week, and a 1:5 weekend rota, plus overtime as required.

You must be a Registered Veterinary Nurse, and ideally achieved or currently studying towards a relevant advanced qualification such as Dip AVN, ECC or Veterinary Technician Specialist.

Senior Oncology Nurse

Job Title:             Senior Oncology Nurse

Reports to:          Head of Oncology

We are looking for an experienced, organised and dynamic senior nurse to join our rapidly growing oncology service. This new role includes the management of the nursing team, together with taking an active role in helping to grow and develop the Oncology Service.

You must have previous experience in all aspects of oncology nursing including admission of patients, scheduling of procedures, administration of chemotherapy and the ability to collaborate with the dispensary team over the provision of consumables and drug stock levels, to ensure adequate levels are maintained at all times. Our oncology nurses are also provided with the opportunity to develop their skills in anaesthesia whilst assisting with oncology related diagnostic procedures.

As DWR is a multidisciplinary hospital, this position requires good knowledge of general nursing and the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with kennels and other departments/services.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, 8 hour shifts – Monday to Friday) and a 1:5 weekend rota within the wards with compensated time off and paid overtime.

Senior Nurse – Emergency & Critical Care

Job Title:            Senior Nurse – Emergency & Critical Care

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and organised Senior Nurse to lead the nursing team within our rapidly growing Emergency and Critical Care Service.

Responsibilities / Expectations:

  • To provide high standard advanced nursing care to critically ill small animal patients, learning new techniques where necessary.
  • To assist with the triage and stabilisation of cases presenting to the hospital on an emergency basis.
  • Mentoring other nurses to be able to provide the same level of care.
  • To ensure the smooth daily operation of the ECC service.
  • Line management and mentoring of the ECC nursing team.
  • To work closely with the senior management team to meet the goals of the ECC service and the wider hospital.
  • To take an active role and show initiative in helping the service to grow and adapt as it matures within the hospital.
  • To provide training to other hospital staff and externally, including taking a leading role in CPR training in-house, ideally becoming a RECOVER certified instructor.
  • To be responsible for team adherence to infection control policies within the ICU.

 

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a specialist led small animal emergency and critical care setting.
  • Either actively working towards, or already successfully completed, the VTS (ECC) qualification.
  • Previous experience of managing a team.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Previous experience in lecturing on the subject of ECC at a national and international level, or interest in doing so.
  • Previous teaching experience is considered beneficial.

Ophthalmology Nurse

Job Title:             Ophthalmology Nurse – RVN

Develop your career with DWR and be part of something special!  An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and enthusiastic qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our Ophthalmology Nursing Team, working in our busy, purpose-built hospital that is fully equipped with the surgical equipment and diagnostic facilities commensurate with a flagship specialist veterinary centre. The role of the Ophthalmology Nurse is highly involved in all aspects of nursing various ophthalmic conditions including corneal ulcers, glaucoma, cataracts and orbital and eyelid diseases. The role also includes assisting the ophthalmologists with patient examinations and minor ophthalmic procedures. This is a very rewarding role, within which you can expect daily opportunities to learn and develop your knowledge and experience skillset.

The successful candidate will have excellent all-round nursing skills, with a passion and drive for delivering outstanding client and patient care. They will be a team player who enjoys working in a supportive working environment whilst also being able to use their initiative and challenge the status quo.  Referral nursing experience is not necessary as full training will be provided.
