Job Summary

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and experienced scientist to join the veterinary diagnostic laboratory team working in our busy, purpose-built specialist veterinary centre.

The position will be based in the blood sciences department which covers haematology, biochemistry and endocrinology. The successful applicant will be performing blood film examination alongside urinalysis, conducting QC and maintenance of analysers, stock control and training of colleagues/students when required. Multidisciplinary work in microbiology and histology may be involved on an ad hocbasis and dependent on the interests of the individual. The role will be supported by the Laboratory Manager and senior BMS in blood sciences. Colleagues are encouraged to participate in CPD and undertake further training.

This is a full time position, 40-hour week, working 8 hour shifts between the hours of 06:30 and 18:00 Monday to Friday. The post holder would be required to partake in a 1 in 5 Saturday rota and bank holiday rota. The laboratory is not open on Sundays or Christmas day.

Successful Candidate 

The ideal candidate will have experience in haematology (either human or veterinary) and/or biochemistry/endocrinology with an interest in learning more about veterinary diagnostics. They will hold a degree in a relevant science subject, ideally biomedical science or similar. Experience with any of our analysers or similar would be advantageous: Advia 2120, Beckman Coulter AU480 and Siemens Immulite 2000.

Computer literacy is essential with the ability to pick up quickly the use of our laboratory information and practice management systems.
