Job title: Histology Technician/Biomedical Scientist

Date created: September 2019

Reports to: Head of Clinical Pathology

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate scientist to join our laboratory team.

We require a motivated histology scientist looking to further their career and knowledge in veterinary diagnostics. You would be working alongside 2 scientists and 3 anatomic pathologists in our expanding Histology Department, soon to move into brand new purpose-built facilities. The role will be hands on, preparing processing tissue samples using dissection, embedding, microtomy, staining and special staining techniques. We will soon be introducing a new immunohistochemistry instrument and expanding this area of our service; and full training can be provided in this area if necessary.

The successful candidate will need to be capable of working on their own initiative as well as being part of the wider laboratory team, assisting in the blood sciences department on the Saturday rota, making this an exciting position for a candidate keen on a multidisciplinary role. Full training can be given in all areas for the right individual. Colleagues are encouraged to participate in CPD and undertake further training.

This is a full time position working a 40-hour week Monday to Friday with a1 in 5 Saturday rota and bank holiday rota. The laboratory is not open on Sundays or Christmas day.

Successful Candidate:

The ideal candidate will either hold a degree in a relevant science subject, ideally Biomedical Science or Bioveterinary Science; or have relevant experience in a histology setting.

Computer literacy is essential with the ability to pick up use of our laboratory information and practice management systems.

The post requires a passion and drive for delivering results and a high level of organisation.

In return, we offer a professional, friendly and supportive environment and daily opportunities to learn and develop your skills!
