Job Summary

Develop your career with DWR and be part of something special!  Due to an expanding caseload, an opportunity has arisen for a passionate and enthusiastic qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse to join the vibrant Internal Medicine Nursing Team working in our busy, purpose-built clinic that is fully equipped with the surgical equipment and diagnostic facilities commensurate with a flagship specialist veterinary centre.

Currently the Internal Medicine Service encompasses: gastroenterology, immunology, haematology, endocrinology, cardiology and respiratory cases. This role is largely anaesthesia and procedure-based, thus enables candidates to maintain a wide and varied skill set.

On a typical day you will be involved with assisting the veterinary surgeon with a range of diagnostic or therapeutic procedures to include but not limited to; various endoscopy procedures, thoracocentesis and/or chest drain placement, bone marrow biopsy, feeding tube placement, pericardiocentesis etc. You will be largely involved with the anaesthesia and sedation for these cases on a daily basis, working closely with our team of highly skilled anaesthetists. As an Internal Medicine Nurse, you will also work with our Diagnostic Imaging and Cardiology Departments, giving you the chance to see a varied and exciting case load. Our Internal Medicine Department has a high emergency case load, thus Internal Medicine Nurses are also provided with the opportunity to utilise their skills in ECC and triage.

Successful Candidate

You will have excellent all-round nursing skills with a minimum of one-year post qualification experience. The ideal candidate will be competent and confident with general anaesthesia, and will have experience with anaesthetising both routine and higher-risk patients. Experience with general anaesthesia for a range of endoscopy procedures is also desirable but not essential.

You will have a keen interest in internal medicine, and be keen to progress your knowledge and expertise within this area. You will be a team player who enjoys working in a supportive working environment whilst also being able to use your initiative and challenge the status quo. Referral nursing experience is not necessary as full training will be provided. However, experience working in a busy and fast-paced environment is desirable.

This is a full time 40-hour week position. 8-hour shifts are worked between the hours of 08.00 and 18.00 Monday to Friday and a 1:5 weekend rota with compensated time off and paid overtime.
