Job Title: Internal Medicine Nurse – RVN
Date Created: February 2019
Reports to: Nurse Manager
Develop your career with DWR and be part of something special! Due to an expanding caseload, an opportunity has arisen for a passionate and enthusiastic qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our vibrant Internal Medicine Nursing Team working in our busy, purpose-built hospital that is fully equipped with the surgical equipment and diagnostic facilities commensurate with a flagship specialist veterinary clinic.
Currently the Internal Medicine Service encompasses; cardiology and oncology as well as endocrinology, gastroenterology and respiratory cases. This role is largely procedure-based and enables candidates to maintain a wide and varied skill set. Anaesthesia is an important part of our role as well as triage Emergency and Critical Care.
You will be based within the internal medicine room, which is a fast paced environment that allows you to push yourself to be the best you can be! The average day of an internal medicine nurse starts with patient rounds in the morning allowing for discussion of cases, the new admits and plan for the day. Following this we start seeing new cases and carrying out procedures. These involve anything from upper GI endoscopy and rhinoscopy to bone marrow sampling and central line placement. The nursing team carries out their own anaesthetics with support from the veterinary surgeons, which allows us to continue developing and maintaining a valuable skill set! As the hospital and team continue to grow, so does our caseload. This includes an increase in the amount of ECC patients we see. Therefore, giving you the opportunity to get involved in the triage and emergency care of these patients. The end of the day is then finished off with rounds and patient plans discussed for the next day. This allows continuing planning and organisation, allowing the nursing team to be as efficient as possible!
You will have excellent all-round nursing skills, with a passion and drive for delivering outstanding client and patient care. You will be a team player who enjoys working in a supportive working environment whilst also being able to use your initiative and challenge the status quo. Referral nursing experience is not necessary as full training will be provided.
This is a full time 40-hour week position. 8-hour shifts are worked between the hours of 08.00 and 18.00 Monday to Friday and a 1:5 weekend rota in wards with compensated time off and paid overtime.
You can expect daily opportunities to learn and develop your skills!
