Dick White Referrals

Ophthalmologist

We are offering an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated colleague to join our Ophthalmology Service at DWR.
DWR is a busy, purpose-built Specialist referral-only small animal veterinary clinic based in Six Mile Bottom, Suffolk, UK, located only 10 miles from the vibrant and historic university city of Cambridge, with excellent connections to London, the Midlands and the stunning East Anglian coast. Stansted Airport is also only 30 minutes away by car. The clinic is fully equipped with the surgical, diagnostic and hospitalisation facilities commensurate with a flagship specialist veterinary centre and has an on-site reference laboratory with both clinical and diagnostic histopathology. As part of our ongoing drive for excellence, we are currently building a 30,000 sq ft extension that will double the size of our facilities and create a truly world-class facility. Aside from the excellent, positive and collaborative working environment that places great value on team-work, DWR offers a competitive remuneration package including a generous salary, pension provision, achievable bonus scheme, private health insurance, income protection and life assurance schemes and family-focused leave provision alongside annual study leave and CPD allowances. Flexible working requests will also be considered.
DWR was founded in 2003 by Professor Dick White and has grown rapidly to become the largest private veterinary referral centre in the UK, currently employing 42 Specialists, 7 Clinical Fellows, 20 Residents and 16 interns who, along with our 200-strong support staff, provide 24/7 referral-only services for patients across England in anaesthesia and analgesia cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, diagnostic pathology, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, physiotherapy and soft tissue surgery. As we are also an Educational Partner of the University of Nottingham, the successful candidate will be awarded Honorary Associate Professor status with this institution. Clinical research activity and participation is therefore encouraged and colleagues collaborate with scientific, medical and veterinary institutions across the UK and further afield in many ongoing studies.
Due to an increasing caseload, the Ophthalmology Department is expanding and we now seek to recruit an additional Ophthalmologist to our team. We currently have 2 full-time European College Boarded Ophthalmologists, supported by one post residency Clinical Fellow, 3 ECVO Residents, a dedicated Ophthalmology Intern and 3 Ophthalmology Nurses.
Applicants will be Board-Certified by the European or American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. Experienced residency-trained candidates eligible to sit the qualifying Specialist examinations for these colleges will also be considered for the role of Clinical Fellow, with promotion to the role of Specialist expected upon successful completion of the examinations. Candidates should hold a UK valid current driving licence and be a member, or eligible to become a member, of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
For an informal discussion about the position or to make a formal application, please contact the Head of Ophthalmology, James Oliver: jo@dwr.co.uk. Tel: +44 (0)1638 572012.
