DWR Veterinary Specialists is one of the UK’s leading veterinary specialist centres that provides secondary and tertiary referral-only specialist veterinary care for dogs and cats across the south and east of England. DWR was founded in 2003 by Professor Dick White DipACVS DipECVS FRCVS and has grown rapidly to become one of the largest, truly multi-disciplinary, Specialist veterinary referral centres in Europe, currently employing 48 specialist veterinary clinicians, residents and 18 interns along with our 250-strong support staff, which includes just over 100 registered veterinary nurses.  We are located only 10 miles from the vibrant and historic University city of Cambridge, with excellent road and rail connections to London, the Midlands, and the stunning East Anglian coast. Stansted airport is also only 30 minutes away by car.  We are proud to provide a 24/7 referral-only services for patients across England in anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, clinical pathology and histopathology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, physiotherapy, and soft tissue surgery. The hospital is fully equipped with the surgical, diagnostic and hospitalisation facilities commensurate with a flagship specialist veterinary hospital. We have an onsite reference laboratory with both in-house clinical pathology and diagnostic histopathology, and we also have our own veterinary nurse training academy that currently has 82 students registered. As part of our ongoing drive for excellence, later this year we are due to open a 32,000 ft2 (3000 m2) extension that will double the size of our facilities and create a truly world class hospital.

Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for a Small Animal Senior Soft Tissue Surgeon to join our expanding surgery service. We currently have four board certified soft tissue surgical specialists alongside five surgical residents and are looking to grow our team. We have one of the only Cardiac surgery services in the world which is rapidly expanding, and ideally are searching for someone with a strong interest in heart surgery, with a view to potentially becoming a fellow in cardiac surgery within 6 months, for the right candidate. Our heart surgery service is led by Dr Poppy Bristow and Dr Anne Kurosawa and supported by a strong team of specialists and nurses. We are passionate in further advancing this field to continue to help as many animals and their owners as possible, by improving quality of life and duration of life. We are seeking a candidate who shares our passion for this fascinating and unique field. It is imperative the person we seek is proactive, works well as part of a team and has excellent communication skills.

Application

Successful applicants will be Board-Certified in Small Animal Surgery by the American or European College of Veterinary Surgeons and be eligible for RCVS Specialist status. Applications from experienced residency trained candidates, eligible to sit the qualifying specialist examinations for these colleges, will also be welcomed.
